January 2019 Reading Recap

Wow, I started off 2019 at a sprint. 23 books read in January, though lots of audio and poetry. My goal was to read 5 books of poetry in 2019 and I basically doubled that in January alone because of my commitment to just freaking doing it. I also read some books I’d been REALLY looking forward to, like Bad Blood and Two Can Keep a Secret and made progress on my reading for class.

Total Books Read: 23

  • Monday’s Not Coming
  • Bad Blood
  • The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One
  • Atomic Marriage
  • One Thing-Then Another
  • The Spies That Bind
  • When I Walk Through That Door, I Am
  • Life on Mars
  • The 57 Bus
  • Swing
  • I Am Malala
  • The First Conspiracy
  • The Princess Saves Herself in This One
  • Two Can Keep a Secret
  • Thanks Obama
  • If My Body Could Speak
  • Sunshine, Sadness, and Other Floridian Effects
  • The Friendship War
  • Another Last Day
  • Women in Sports
  • Immediate Song
  • The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein
  • Hamilton The Revolution

Audiobooks Consumed: 8 and a half?

I’ve started doing this thing where I’ll read some of a book, listen to some of it on audio, read some on my Kindle, etc. It’s kind of confusing. I read about half of I am Malala and listened to the other half.

Poetry Read:  10

Sooo much poetry. Some better than others. I love Lovelace.

Favorite Read: Bad Blood

I literally cannot stop raving about this book. The story of Theranos is crazy but this book is extremely well-written and also has great narration.

Least Favorite Read:  First Conspiracy

I didn’t hate the book, but it wasn’t what I thought. It probably could have been half as long and still succeeded. The narration also didn’t hook me.

Books for Class: 5

I read Monday’s Not Coming (realistic fiction), The 57 Bus (non-fiction), Swing (book in verse), Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein (horror) and I am Malala (memoir)

What did you read in January?

Here are my goals for February

  • Read 5 books of poetry
  • Get to 40 books read for the year
  • Read 3 books for FFL (I get paid to review…woo!)
  • Finish reading for my YA lit class (4 more books)
